The rain was coming down in sheets when Marcus accepted the high-paying fare on his rideshare app. It was 11:45 PM, and the pickup was at a dark, isolated crossroads on the edge of town. A woman in a soaking wet trench coat got into the backseat, pulling her hood down so low her face was entirely in shadow. Marcus kicked the car into drive, the radio humming with soft jazz.

"Heading home after a long shift?" Marcus asked, glancing at the rearview mirror.

The woman didn't answer. She sat perfectly rigid in the middle seat. Marcus shrugged, but as he looked back down at his dashboard GPS, his heart skipped a beat. The app wasn't showing one passenger icon—it showed two. Then, a cold, bony hand reached out from the empty darkness of the far-right seat, gently resting on the woman's shoulder.
